Now it’s time to do a little surface alteration. My plate will be decorated with channels on either side of each scallop, but mark your channels wherever you like—or go your own way for decoration! G If you do want to make the channels, use a small piece of a metal rib to carve into the clay. H Create a deeper mark in the clay closer to the lines created and more of a high point in the center. Once you have worked around the entire form, all that is left is to outline the curve of the channels. Use a metal or plastic rib to smooth the high points. This will push any sharp edges back into the clay. I
